Al Barber of Golden Living is President-Elect for The American Society of Consultant Pharmacists
Fort Smith, Ark., August 20, 2009 — The American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) has announced that Al Barber, a Director of Pharmacy Services for Golden Living, has been elected to the position of President-Elect. He also becomes a member of the Executive Committee.
After serving as President-Elect during 2010, Barber will become President in 2011 and Chairman of the Board in 2012. Barber continues as a member of the ASCP Board of Directors, where he has served since 2006.
The ASCP is an international professional association that represents consultant and senior care pharmacists. It provides leadership, education, advocacy and resources to advance the practice of senior care pharmacy.
Barber will support ASCP in its mission to empower pharmacists to enhance quality of care for all older persons through the appropriate use of medication and promotion of healthy aging.
“It takes an extraordinary dedication to the pharmacy industry and respect from our peers to attain this honor in the ASCP,” said Robert Warnock, Vice President of Pharmacy Services for Golden Living. “I am extremely proud of Al for his hard work, dedication and professionalism.”
Barber is the second Golden Living employee to earn this prestigious position. Lee Meyer, another Golden Living Director of Pharmacy Services, was President-Elect in 2007. Meyer progressed to become ASCP’s President in 2008 and Chairman of the Board in 2009.
In addition, Warnock served on the Board of Directors from 1999 to 2001 and from 2003 to 2005. He also served as the association’s treasurer from 2005 to 2007.
To become an officer of ASCP, candidates must gain the respect of the more than 7,000 ASCP members and contribute their time and experience to the pharmacy industry.
“Golden Living is proud that the majority of its Directors of Pharmacy Services are board certified geriatric pharmacists,” said Warnock. “We have hired a group of seasoned and highly respected professionals who work tirelessly to not only serve Golden Living’s senior patients but also lend their talents to improving the profession and industry as a whole.”
